Dear Parents:

First quarter went by very quickly here at Disney II Magnet School. We had a very successful first ten weeks of the 2009/10 school year. Thank you to all students and families who have participated in our Fall Fund Drive. The funds generated from this drive will help support the extended day. Any donation, large or small, will show us your commitment to sustain this program.

Congratulations to all students for their hard work in both literacy and mathematics. According to the STEP assessment, we began the school year with 49% of our students reading at or above grade level. Currently, 69% of our students are at or above grade level in reading! In math, we have been working through the process of developing and administering our interim math assessment. Students have shown great progress in their math knowledge, concepts, and applications!
The new drop-off/pick-up procedures works great! Thanks to the commitment of the parent volunteers who show up every day (rain or shine J) and also collaborated with the school’s staff to improve and implement the procedures. Please check the newsletter insert for many after-school enrichment opportunities for the winter/spring. Thanks to the teachers, PTA Board, IAC, and parent volunteers who supported the development of these programs.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,
Bogdana Chkoumbova
