Principal's Message

Dear Disney II Community,

Last week I received the scores achieved by our 3rd grade students on the Illinois Standard Achievement Test (ISAT). The test took place in March and had the following components: reading, mathematics, and writing. 92.2% of 3rd grade Disney II students meet/exceed the state standards! The district's average for 3rd grade is 69.5%.

I am very excited to share with you more details.

Overall 92.2% 52% 97.8%
Reading 88.2% 43.1% 95.7%
Mathematics 96.1% 60.8% 100%

*IEP (Individualized Educational Plan for students with special needs)

Several other accomplishments should be noted:

52% of Disney II students exceed standards in comparison to 22.9% of Chicago Public Schools' students.
92.5% of Disney II minority students are meeting/exceeding state standards.
93.8% of Disney II students who qualify for free and reduced lunch are meeting/exceeding state standards.

Our 3rd graders worked very hard to achieve these results in less than two years as Disney II scholars. About 10% of the 3rd graders actually enrolled in the fall of 2009. In this short period of time our talented faculty, innovative programs, and extended school day proved to be effective and we can celebrate the establishment of a strong foundation for continuous success. Congratulations to all students, teachers, parents, and supporters of our new school community. Disney II is on the way to become one of the top 10 Chicago Public Schools.

Based on the assessment data we will place focus on improving in the areas of reading, overall increase of number of students exceeding standards, and providing additional support for students with special needs.

I am looking forward to seeing all of you at the Back-to-School Carnival at 12 noon September 2nd. Enjoy the summer vacation!

Sincerely,

Bogdana Chkoumbova
